Michael Dotson
brengt de authentieke Chicagoblues terug in Nederland!
Michael Dotson is
geboren in 1957, jaren heeft Michael als ‘side”gitarist gespeeld in
de chicago bluesscene en heeft nationaal en internationaal getourd.
Op dit moment woont Michael in Chigaco Illinois waar hij een aantal
jaar geleden zijn eigen band heeft geformeerd waar mee hij in de
afrondende fase zit van zijn nieuwste cd. De sound van dit album vat
Michael op deze manier samen: “Hard hitting electric Chicago blues
with a traditional bent to it.”
Als tiener in de
zeventiger jaren verschool Michael zich al stiekem in de groezelige
bluesclubs van de Chigaco bluesscene. Toch waren zijn eerste
instrumenten clarinet en saxofoon maar het blues vuurtje werd flink
aangewakkerd tijdens het aanschouwen van een live concert van Muddy
Waters en al gauw ruilde hij zijn blazers in voor de gitaar.
(Michael was destijds 13 jaar)
Zwaar geďnspireerd
door de blues die hij in zijn jonge jaren kreeg voorgeschoteld is
het vanzelfsprekend dat zijn voorkeur uit gaat naar de grondtonen
van de blues, gespeeld zoals bijvoorbeeld door: Otis Rush, Buddy
Guy, Magic Slim en Junior Welch. Het kan natuurlijk geen toeval zijn
dat Michael later zelf met veel van deze jeugdhelden het podium
heeft mogen delen.
Al deze ervaringen
zijn terug te horen op Michaels solo album: ‘Lightnin’ in my pocket’
uit 2006, waar naast traditionele blues ook swamp slide, originele
swing en good old house rockin’ music te horen is.

Michael Dotson bringt back the authentic Chicago blues to the
Netherlands!
Born in 1957, Michael Dotson has performed as a sideman for years on
the Chicago blues scene, nationally, and internationally. Currently
he is living in Chicago, Illinois, where he has formed his own band
and is in the final stages of releasing his new CD.
As
a teenager he soaked in the still thriving Chicago blues scene of
the seventies. His initial interest in the blues was sparked by
seeing Muddy Waters live at a political fund raiser. Although his
first instruments were clarinet and saxophone, he began to play the
guitar at the age of thirteen. Since the drinking age at the time
was eighteen, and he was big for his age, he was sneaking into blues
clubs on a regular basis by the age of sixteen.
He
was profoundly influenced by the music he experienced first hand
from the likes of Otis Rush, Magic Slim, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells,
Lefty Dizz, Sunnyland Slim, and many others. He later went on to
perform with many of his boyhood heroes.
One
can hear all these experiences on Michaels solo album: ‘Lightnin’ in
my pocket’ (2006), which contains traditional blues, swamp slide,
original swing en good old house rockin’ music.
